malabrigo malabrigo

I still don’t get a chance to read all of the blogs that I want to. If I had been caught up, I would have seen Brooklyn Tweed’s post (11.17.06) on what his yellow Malabrigo was becoming. If I had seen how gorgeous Grumperina’s Shifting Sands pattern looked with that yarn, I might have thought twice about my own.

Instead, I spent about and hour mulling over several ribs and one wave motif in my 365 Knitting Stitches a Year perpetual ly-on-the-wrong-date calendar. I settled on Farrow Rib (June 26) and am quite pleased. I wanted something slightly different that was the same on both sides. It’s extremely similar to the Mistake Rib stitch, but with a k2, P1 repeat.

I had been coveting some blue Malabrigo at the shop for some time and I finally bought up 5 skeins on Saturday. Someone called and said they were looking for a few skeins and that lit a fire under my ass. Don’t worry, if you are the caller, there are four left! This gorgeous stuff will be the first hat, scarf and glove set I will make for myself. I have made myself only one scarf–the clap–and have never made a hat for myself or mittens at all. I have wanted to make Subway Knitter’s Urban Necessity flap gloves for some time and since I just lost one in my own set, again, the fire has been lit. It’s up in the air as to whether I’ll make a hat or a headband just yet. I am quite fond of Stephanie’s set and must say that it is what inspired me to finally knit myself something so practical.

This week I am looking forward to a visit from the Yarnmonster and teaching Mr. Sassy how to use the Futura. Heaven help us. At least he’ll be able to troubleshoot with me :)

ugh, i have wasted SO MUCH of my life ruminating over stitch patterns, trying to decide what i like best. and i always find something better a few days later. but i think your choice for the scarf is perfect, just complicated enough to show off the malabrigo.

Wow, Mr Sassy on the Futura? That sounds like something to see.
Looking forward to seeing you too–and that Malabrigo looks so yummy!

That’s going to be such a yummy winter set. I have one hat/scarf/gloves set that I knit for myself, and I am considering another. There are so many other things on the to-knit list before I get to those, though!

Yummy malabrigo… I need to get myself some of this. And the image of Mr. Sassy at the Futura has me chuckling! Good luck!

Oh, I recognize that Malabrigo: it’s Stone Blue! I only bought one skein, with the idea of making a hat, but flip-top mittens sound really nice… 4 skeins left, you said?
