« MJ’s Christmas stocking | what KAL? »
back to the knitting.
2007 @ 9:39 am
oops, i wrote this AGES ago. probably right after Christmas. Anyway, here it is! Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth. It’s been a it busy with visitors, crafty days, mommy groups and whatallelse. without further ado, I give you the post Christmas post.
Turns out I DID have a holiday knit! Just one and I didn’t even finish it in time. It seems that every time I try to make something for my mother, the project is DOOMED. This year she requested, with plenty of time, a headbandscarf. I don’t know what else to call this thing, but they’ve been making appearances at all sorts of craft fairs and street vendors in the last year. It consists of a designer (or not) silk scarf cleverly attached to a plastic headband. So, you can appear as though you have a fancy scarfy tying your hair back without the constant annoyance of it slipping off your head. My mom, sister and I all have very slippery hair. I distinctly remember being plied with mousse at a young age to give my hair the texture needed to hold a braid. Anyway, this doo hicky is made for us and i was to make one for her. But, I can’t find my neverbeforeused hot glue gun. grrrrrr. Frankly, I need her help to figure out how to make the thing anyway.
On to the next: cotton angora cable hat. I ALMOST finished, but ran out of yarn. Two nights ago I completed the hat by unknitting MJ’s hat; the original inspiration for mom’s cap. It was too hot for her anyway!
I just need to sew up the hem, block it, and it’s done. I’ll give it to her on Monday when I head homeward for a family reunion of sorts and some crafting. Mom needs to help me with her gift AND MJ’s stocking. I never even started that. Shame on mommy. On Christmas day (which was fantastic for all involved) i retrieved my first stocking, pictured here:
If you are thinking, “hey, that looks a little bit like stretched out cotton balls around the top there” you would be correct. I have a very resourceful mother. I have inherited the remnant of this fabric and hope to stitch a piece of it into MJ’s stocking. To think, I almost made that skull drawstring pouch from it instead! I didn’t know it had such sentimental value.
Enough of the holiday business. It was great, MJ had fun, we all got great gifts and hope that our friends and family feel the same way. On to the New Year! I’ve decided to join a KAL. More of a “lifestyle” KAL than a “project” KAL. It’s Knit From Your Stash 2007. Totally doable, but not easily while working at a yarn shop. Thank goodness fabric is not included. I started a new craft just in time.

The hat looks great. For some reason I can’t see the stocking pics, I will check in again later, since I’m dying to see the cotton ball tops

Mmm, that looks like a nice cozy hat.
