New Knitty!

I love when Knitty comes out! It always gives a little pick me up. I was especially excited to see Cassie’s pattern, Tubey, and was very satisfied to discover at the end of my perusal that it is my favorite pattern in this issue. Also at the top of my list is Mrs. Beeton, but obviously for very different reasons! The Mrs. Beeton cuffs are just so darn cute! These are a great solution for my “almost too short” jackets. I often wish that there were some sort of solution for “just a bit short” pants too, but I’m not sure knitting is the answer to this dilemma.

I turned my first heel this morning on the train! It took me the entire 40 minute ride, but I think I managed well. I almost completely winged it. I watched the Knitting Help tutorial last night and decided to go for it. I’ll break it down in case anyone wants to tell me I did this correctly or incorrectly (sorry no pics yet):

Starting with 32 stitches on the needle, I knit and then ssk until there were 8 stitches left and turned. I s1 and purled then p2tog till there were 8 stitches on the other side. I continued to decrease at the end of each row using the last stitch of the short row and the first stitch over the gap until there was no gap left. It’s centered and the “heel cup”, as it appear to be, is about 2 inches wide and I noted that my own heel is about that diameter.

What do you socksperts think? Should I make it a little wider for the boy?

sounds about perfect to me! you said that mr. sassy had small ankles so i think that this will suit him just fine..

on another note, i wonder why old posts keep getting updated in the RSS feeds?? strange, no?

That’s exactly how I do the heels on my 64-stitch socks (except I P2tog tbl because I’m masochistic like that) - I think it will be just fine for a Man Heel. The sock is looking great!
