i owe you
2006 @ 10:56 am
I definitely owe you guys some photos! I’ve finished my long-abandoned diagonal baby blanket (although I still plan to add some fabric to one side) AND the Sassy Striped Stocking cap. In fact, I wrote up the pattern and stuck it on my new “Patterns” page. Not too exciting without a photo though. I assure you, it’s adorable.
I’ve also decided to participate in the Knitting Olympics! What a great idea this is. My challenge will be to complete the Shetland Triangle from Wrap Style during the duration of the games. Here’s a link to the blog of joyousknits who finished this shawl in December. Gorgeous! The pattern is by Evelyn A. Clark, the same designer as the popular Flower Basket Shawl. I hear rumors that the cast on is the same and I’m looking forward to overcoming this first challenge of the project. This will be my first shawl as well, a second challenge. Third challenge is, of course, the deadline. I am not good with these.
Thank goodness, the rules state that it’s all good to pre-swatch (training, haha). Amateur yarn finalists are:
alpaca
or silk?
Last night I picked up my Kaitlyn Sweater. At 10:30 pm I decided to rip back the sleeve. *sigh* I know damn well that this is too late in the evening to attempt to rip my knitting and expect good results. It’s a fucking mess. I am so pissed. A couple of weeks ago, after finishing the body, I put it down. I had noticed that my picked up underarm stitches were not to my liking. I decided to free up some Denise cords so that I could use two of them instead of the bamboo needles that don’t really enjoy working with Brooks Farm Duet. I was finally back to it last night, decided I was being too hard on myself with the picked up stitches, and was enjoying it! Then I noticed that I had placed the increases (for trumpet sleeves) incorrectly. The pattern is written for flat knitting and I was attempting to convert it. I had placed them to far to the left of center. POOP. So, now its a mess and I don’t even want to look at it. I did the right thing though and packed it as my only project for the weekend. I’ll be spending the entire day at my parents house tomorrow–perhaps my crafty family can be of assistance. Or at least talk me down from the ledge.

i’m going to tackle the flower basket shawl for the olympics, i think. now the only question is do i use the grey alpaca that i bought from the same vendor that you bought your alpaca from or do i use the duet? decisions decisions.
I vote for alpaca too. I think the intricate pattern might be lost with the color changes of the silk.
I LOVE the turquoise of that alpaca. It will look stunning. Sorry about the sleeve issues ~ I’m sure they’ll work themselves out over the weekend.
Cool we can all do the weird cast on together! Oh and I, like everyone else, love the alpaca - such an amazing color.

Alpaca!!! I think the beauty of the pattern may get lost in the vibrant silk colors. Although I do love them, they might be better suited for something else. Can I tell you how impressed I am that you are going to tackle such a beautiful and challenging project???
