Finished: 2T Tunic for my 2 Year Old

Hold onto your hats…. it’s not a yoga mat bag. I made this for Cassie last night–I have been thinking about it since the weather turned warm. After making more than 50 bags, I am ready to get back into sewing for little girls. Just in time for summer.

At this point, I’ve made so many modifications that I can really only say that this is based on Simplicity’s 5118 pattern. I combined views A and C, lengthened it, dropped some extras, and sewed it at .5″ instead of 5/8″ so it will fit Cassie for longer. This is size 2T, modified as described. It’s now a tush covering tunic that will probably be worn as a shirt next Spring.

I hope to get more clothes for the girls finished in the next couple of weeks!

Last weekend I went on a photo walk to Grand Army Plaza near our place in Brooklyn and down to 4th ave in Park Slope for a dinner of Ramen with a friend,my husband and daughter number two… hope you enjoy the results! I’ve missed my camera in this busy time.

MInty Fresh Mittens

Let’s pretend that this is me saying good bye to Winter. These are some super warm mittens created for me by Mintrfresh over at Pepperknit! Malabrigo Twist, YUM. This mitten was gifted to me during the annual Spiders Trek to Bay Ridge. Although it does seem that it’s slowly becoming less of a trek for many of us. Stay tuned to Minty’s Ravelry and blog for the pattern… it’s a keeper!

Minty also loaned me her 30mm lens to take the photo–sweet lens, indeed.

I love this knit! Cassie looks super adorable and it was really quick to do because I chose a chunky yarn. Highly recommended for your little girl! It has a long option too, although it was just too long for an 18-24 mos old.

Pattern: Baby Tiered Coat and Jacket by Lisa Chemery
Yarn: Cascade Superwash 128
Needles: Size 10.5
Mods: I used this larger gauge and knit the largest size for my 18-24 mos old. I’m hoping I can size it up for Maia.

I’ve been making some yoga mat bags and they are really pretty and really useful (if you have a yoga mat bag). I bought some fabulous fabric the other day and plan to update my etsy shop, Flip Maja, with them in the coming weeks.

Finished!: Birthday Cowl

Hey, I just realized that I took a photo of a long-ago knit and gifted project! I knit up the Birthday Cowl (non ravel link) for the Spiders project exchange at the end of winter 2007.

The recipient was the lovely Carrie of Every Word’s a Purl who wears a lovely blue coat. I have no idea if she’s found use for the cowl, but I loved knitting it and I love the color. Yarn is Autunno by Di’ve… i love this yarn. So soft and the colorways are gorgeous. This cowl took 2 skeins, I believe.

I’ve lightened up my Gleek designed theme a bit… hoping my photos appear a little lightened too!

Beloved Brooklyn General

Long time readers are aware that I have a favorite LYS. Don’t we all? I have worked, taught, and above all, shopped at The Brooklyn General Store for about four years now. The place is huge, colorful, friendly and full of stuff I love. The stock of fabric and yarn is plentiful, ever-changing and hand-picked by the shop’s owners. Every skein and bolt is marked with their aesthetic and every inch of the shop reflects old-fashioned charm.

I am so excited that finally the whole WORLD can share in the wonderful goodies at Brooklyn General, “where country fiber warms the big city”! The online shop opened quietly last week. I hope you’ll pop over and take a look, buy some yarn or a gift certificate, or even sign up for a class! I’ll be teaching a finishing techniques workshop starting next week.
